"Technical skill is mastery of complexity while creativity is mastery of simplicity" by E. Christopher Zeeman. As a woodworker/builder, I am either applying wood to wood or removing wood from wood. Once you have mastered the skills of a cabinetmaker, that is when the fun begins. The fun is the ability to design a piece of cabinetry or a building and then knowing you have the skills to engineer the joinery, curves or other complexities and then build it to that specification.
