Architectural Woodwork

Architectural woodwork was never a goal. I ended up here. It has become one of the most enjoyable parts of my business.

Creating interior or exterior details that I design or reproduce to match an existing detail on a building is architectural woodworking. This includes doors, windows, entry ways, moulding, built-ins, paneling and the list goes on.

Historical houses are common in my region. I have been fortunate to work on many of the great old houses in the region. The Coventry House, 1796 – A Samuel Mcintire house is one of the finest federal period houses in the region – The Tobias Langdon House, 1712 – A beautiful example of an early American home – and many more.

I have done very contemporary interiors as well. The photo gallery will give you a chance to see examples and the careful eye for proportion, detail color and workmanship.

The interior work can be very challenging due to the crookedness of some of the old houses. Building casework or panels intentionally out of square is difficult at the least. Then installing them has its own host of challenges. When building an addition to an old house, these same set of problems arise. I painstakingly engineer the frames so the detailing matches when a project is completed. This is the difference between Robert J LaCivita LLC and most other building companies.

I find the engineering, detailing and weatherproofing very exciting. When I build an entryway, I know it will be there for a few hundred years for all the passerbys to see. Many projects are simple repair work. I work to preserve as much of the original as possible.

In many city and towns with historical districts, special approvals are needed to do exterior work. I can assist you with that process.
